A leaf spring center pin gets slotted through the hole found in the center of leaves to prevent lateral movement and keep them in contact with the axle. Your vehicle's stock center pins are generally just long enough for your stock leaf spring configuration, so when additional leaves (helper / overload springs, or lift springs) are added, stock pins will need to be replaced with longer pins like these to accommodate the additional height of the new leaf stack.
