MicroMobile Radios

MicroMobile Radios

3 minute read

Breaker Breaker can you hear me? Over! The time has come to ditch the CB Radio and become familiar with MicroMoblie Radios. The reliable communication solution for overlanding, off-roading, farming, RV-ing, family trips, and outdoor adventures. Learn about MicroMobile's compact, powerful, and affordable solution to CB Radios.

MicroMobile Vs. CB Radio

While adventuring in vehicles or working in the outdoors keeping in touch with members of a group and local authorities is vital while, but relying on cell phones to have service will become unreliable the further out you travel.

After the invention of the Walkie Talkie (GMRS two-way radios) in 1938 two- way communication was first used during the war efforts and shortly after found its self useful for farmers and truck drivers. As popularity grew and more uses were found for CB Radios a limited number of public channels and signal strength became an issue. The MicroMobile came to be with features that out gun the traditional CB Radio.

Operating a MicroMobile that is able to transmit above 2 Watts of power does require the operator to hold a FCC licenses. A $70 10-year license covers the operator and immediate family.

While members of your group are out on the trails, with a Walkie Talkie, on foot, bikes, vehicles, quads ect. those at base camp can stay in contact in case of emergency and to notify people when it's time to head back. Connecting to Walkie Talkies is simple by selecting the same channel, no additional steps are required.

MXT115 Radio

At OK4WD our vehicles are outfitted with Midland's MXT115 Radios. This radio can broadcast up to three times the range of traditional handheld GMRS two-way radios (walkie talkies). It is easily mounted in most vehicles with a DC adapter. This radio features all 8 repeater GMRS channels for massive transmission and reception ranges, a multi-colored LCD backlit display, NOAA weather alert and USB outputs for charging mobile devices.

We chose the MXT115 for a few reasons. First, the compact size opens many mounting options. Up high above the windshield, in the center console, or under the seat make for great locations and the Radio can be separated from the mounting bracket allowing us to transfer the radio from on vehicle to another.

NOAA Weather Alert Radio

Cell towers and WIFI networks can be vulnerable and unreliable. Similarly service disruption and power loss across your phone, TV, and internet are common during severe weather, mechanical failure, power outages, and even solar flares.

A weather band radio uses a special receiver to tune into National Weather Service (NWS) broadcasts 24/7. Without the need of service or a data plan MicroMobile Radios are a weather band radio, This alert system network is the single most immediate source for comprehensive weather and emergency information available to the public. NOAA weather radios broadcast warnings and post-event information for a wide variety of hazards and emergencies. These radios provide you with instant access to the same weather reports and emergency information that meteorologists and emergency personnel use.

Having reliable communication while out on the trail will keep you in tune with your group but also those who are not in view. Stay safe and up to date on local sever weather and emergencies with a Midland MicroMobile. Available online or stop by our showroom.
