Along For The Ride: Prologue (Part 1)

3 minute read

Life can be what you make it.

It is entirely too easy to get caught up in the 9-to-5 routine, spending our days doing work that is largely unfulfilling, all in the name of personal security. We might take pride in our work. We might enjoy it on a fundamental level. However, many of us can’t escape the nagging feeling that there is more to life, and that the world is waiting. It takes an immense leap of faith to deviate from the norm, and to define life on your own terms.

I’ve finally mustered the courage to take that leap.

I’ve been a Jeep owner since 1993, and a passionate off-road enthusiast since 1998. In my early adulthood, I was out exploring the trails of central Pennsylvania almost every weekend. It instantly became my passion, and ever since, I’ve been living and breathing vehicle-supported adventure.

Over the years, life continued to happen. Chapters were started and finished. All the while, my wanderlust grew inside of me, my heart set on the horizon. However, the time was not right. I would dream, I would plan, and I would tell myself, “Maybe next year.”

The time is never right. Thus, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is always right.

As a full-time web developer for nearly two decades, the routine of spending every day in front of the computer wore away at my soul. I could feel my fire slowly, but steadily, diminish over time. Out the window behind my desk, my Jeep sat dormant, constantly inviting me to explore and experience the world. Eventually, the emptiness and repetitiveness of my life path became too much, so I succumbed to the call of adventure.

It is my goal to wander, to collect experiences, and to share those experiences with you.

My home on wheels is a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited, equipped with a J30 camper by Ursa Minor Vehicles, and a Genesis Dual Battery Kit. Other than those core modifications, it’s a stock Rubicon, which is bound to evolve.

I’m not going to romanticize this life choice. It won’t be easy. I’ll be doing web development, photography, and content production to support this lifestyle. I’m fortunate to have pursued a trade that enables me to be mobile, but whether it will be enough to sustain this endeavor remains to be seen. It’s an idealistic path that’s wrought with uncertainty.

One thing is certain: success or failure, it will be an adventure.

It is my hope that my story will inspire, entertain, and inform you. I plan to write about various destinations, four-wheel drive lifestyle, and whatever trials and tribulations I might encounter. I invite you to follow along, so please check back often for updates!
