Ineos Grenadier Overland Build (Phase 1)

Ineos Grenadier Overland Build (Phase 1)

Alex Zappile
6 minute read

After taking delivery of our Ineos Grenadier this past December our crew wasted no time getting it ready for an overland adventure. Enjoy following along our Ineos Grenadier Overland build.

Picking the Ineos Grenadier for our 2024 company build has been in the works for almost four years. Since the Grenadier was announced back in July of 2020, we knew the Grenadier was going to be a platform worth diving deep into for overland travel.

Rolling off the assembly line with a 3L turbo BMW engine, ZF transmission, a Tremec two-speed transfer case, and Carraro axles, a company that has been manufacturing heavy-duty equipment since 1973, we knew the Grenadier would be an extremely capable adventure vehicle while offering and a comfortable yet unique interior we would enjoy for long days both on the road and trails.

Our first impression of the Ineos Grenadier during our drive home after taking delivery of the truck was full of excitement. The truck felt solid and stable. The power was there with its BMW heartbeat and proper gear ratio selection, given the 6,000lb weight of the vehicle. Any body roll is absorbed by the massively stout swaybars, and the Grenadier has outstanding road manners thanks to its quality steering components and steering stabilizer.

After arriving at our shop, we knew it was only a matter of hours until the Grenadier received its first round of modifications. The next morning the Grenadier was in our showroom to receive a pair of Alu-Cab Load Bar brackets and 1450mm Load Bars. Once the load bars were sorted, we prepped an Alu-Cab 3R Rooftop Tent with Alu-Cab's Tilting Backrest, Drop-Down Table, and the tried-and-true 270° Alu-Cab Shadow Awning.

Adding Alu-Cab's products transformed the Grenadier from an exciting new vehicle you only see at a car dealership into a great weekend getaway adventure truck. The combination of the tent and awning is enough for any duo to hit the road for an exciting weekend of camping.

But we couldn't stop there of course. The second round of modifications made their way from the UK from our friends at Buzz Overland. The boys at Buzz Overland build the highest quality aftermarket parts for the Grenadier, hands down. Buzz Overland hand-builds stainless steel Rock Slider,  Side-Steps, Hinge Steps, as well as an entire Rear Cargo Storage System. Now we should mention the rear cargo system can be configured in a multitude of ways and be purchased as separate items. You can start with just a baseplate, a baseplate and fridge slide, a fridge slide, a drawer, and a cargo barrier; the options are nearly endless.

We opted for the turn-key Complete Cargo Storage System, which includes a baseplate, fridge slide, drawer module, two shelves, and rear cargo barrier. You can pre-order the same kit here. We recently posted an install video of Buzz Overland sliders and drawer system on our YouTube channel that is worth checking out.

One of the many benefits of adding Buzz Overlands storage system to the Grenadier was the optional mounting bracket for an ARB Twin Air Compressor with a remote air chuck conveniently placed at the rear of the storage system that will make inflating tires a breeze. The addition of two shelves gives us a place to strap down our recovery gear, our Wrappon Portable Toilet, and luggage. The upper shelf is ideal for an extra raincoat or rumple. Gear that will stay in the truck for that freak rain storm or chilly nights.

At this point, our Ineos Grenadier Overland Build is really coming together! We have a place to sleep and get out of the sun and the rain, our storage is dialed, a way to inflate and repair tires, a fridge freezer, and a portable restroom. With all this gear combined, the vehicle is ready for an extended trip. A trip across the country, maybe an adventure to Baja or the Catskills, the Grenadier has what it takes for a duo to be comfortable, organized, and equipped for any surprises that may pop up along the way.

We did add another versatile piece of gear to the rear of the truck, as you may have noticed in the photos above. On the rear door of the Grenadier, we added GP Factors' Tailgate Table. A must-have for anyone working or living out of one's vehicle. The Tailgate table provides a massive, food-grade, stainless steel surface, ideal for food prep, cooking, or standing desk, with an equally large and high-quality bamboo cutting board stored underneath the table.

The final pieces to our Ineos Grenadier Overlad Build is to tackle the altitude problem. We added quite a bit of weight to the Grenadier with the tent, awning, storage, and fridge, so the truck began to form a bit of a sag in the rear. To correct that sag, our shop installed a set of Eibach's Pro-Lift 30mm Springs. We did not have to upgrade the shocks because the spring only adds about two inches of lift; this will not cause any ill effects on the factory shocks, and it's worth mentioning that there are no aftermarket shocks for the Grenadier yet! Along with the larger, stiffer springs, we installed a set of BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain tires measuring in at 285/75R17. That is a 34-inch tire, for those who are googling what 285 measures out to in inches. We decided to retain our factory Ineos steelies since the fit the aesthetic of the Grenadier so darn well, there is no reason to change them.

With the addition of the springs and the plus-size tires, the vision has really come together. The Ineos Grenadier Overland build has reached the finish line of what we're calling phase one of our Overland build. But, we are nowhere near finished, that is for sure. We have plans of cutting off the roof, a custom long-term living interior space, and beyond. Make sure you check back in for more updates and follow along with the entire build on our YouTube channel and social media. We'll have product being announced as this platform is developed as well so stay tuned!
