This customer came to us looking to build a vehicle that they could use day to day and in the event of an emergency, it could be used to escape dangers. Yes, this is our very first bug out vehicle (BOV) build.
If you don't know what a bug out vehicle is, be sure to click the link about. The definition of a bug out vehicle by survivalist is a form of transportation that will transport you from your current location to another in a time of crises. With that and daily driving in mind, we set out to install the most robust and dependable equipment currently out on the market.
To start it out, we installed an Old Man Emu 2" Suspension lift. Old Man Emu is known for their ruggedness in engineering as well as their quality in ride comfort. Developed in Australia, its designed from the ground up to withstand some of the harshest environments on Earth.
With any vehicle that might see off-roading or the need to move heavy objects, a winch is a must. To accomodate the WARN 9.5XP winch, an ARB (an Australian company) Bull Bar was installed. ARB Bull Bars are airbag compatible and are designed to withstand the impact of kangaroos.
In the event that this person would need to leave their location, a Gobi Roofrack was installed. Its no secret in the FJ Cruiser world that Gobi produces one of the nicest roofracks and this one was custom tailored for the numerous Vision X LED lights that were installed. An ARB 50QT Fridge was also installed so food and drinks could be stored cold.
Floods aren't common in the Eastern PA/Western NJ area, but they do happen. In the event that a flood does occur, a Safari Snorkel was installed. These are the best snorkels in the industry and are known for the durability against impacts and their resistance to sun damage.
When the going gets tough and this person needs to go off-road, rock sliders were installed to protect the vehicle and to assist with an easier entrance/exit of the vehicle. That's not all, though. All the important bits underneath were protected with Bud-Built skid plates from front to back.
To cope with all the lights, fridge, winch, and any other equipment that would be ran, a dual battery system was installed. These are absolutely critical as it helps the vehicle cope with electrical draw.
Lastly, BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires were installed. These are incredible durable and maintain great road manners while driving on the road.
